The High Court in Kenya has “adjourned” the case brought to it’s docks by the Media Institute and KTN, one of the leading TV networks in Kenya challenging the live media coverage ban imposed in Kenya a month ago.According to the Standard, the reason given for the “adjournment” by the Deputy Solicitor-General, Ms Muthoni Kimani was that, “The AG (Attorney-General) was not available to give us direction after we were served with the suit papers.”Live broadcasting has been banned in Kenya since December 30, 2007. Violence erupted shortly before the ban was imposed because of an unusual delay in the vote tallying and the eventual results which many people in Kenya believe were rigged at the last minute to tip the results to the incumbent, Mwai Kibaki. This directive was issued by the-then minister of internal security, John Michuki.According to the government spokesperson, Alfred Mutua, the reason the government imposed the ban was “to empower editors to be in control of the information relayed by their media houses.” Indeed.
