America's right wing radio…a phenomenon you should not ignore

If you live in the United States, you more than likely have heard of Rush Limbaugh. You may not have heard of Michael Savage.

I re-wrote this article three times because I wanted to capture the best description I could come up with of Michael Savage, but I could only do it with four-letter words or less, so I decided to use a much tamer version. It does not get as extreme as Michael Savage when it comes to racial hatred and stereotyping. All the right-wing talk show hosts here in the US are having a field day with the anti-immigrant sentiment currently sweeping this country.

You could argue that they have played a major part in putting this issue into the conscience of middle America and, consequently, on the front burner of America’s hot, controversial and unresolved issues. In a media landscape where radio stations come and go like bad TV shows, the staying power of the AM radio spectrum, where most of the right wing radio shows reside, has ensured that this issue is permanently on the front burner of the collective american psyche.

Michael Savage commands a huge, growing audience here in the United States and if you’ve not listened to him, you should. I listen to him a lot and I must say that I pick up a lot of stuff that “liberal media” miss to talk about, intentional or not.

Whether you are here to stay, go to school, or just here kutengeneza dough, you cannot afford to be oblivious to what a lot of americans really think about your presence here. This takes on more importance if you have settled here permanently and call the US home.
I know that a lot of younger people would rather just “cosmopolitize” themselves and hope that days of racial intolerance manenos are behind us. You will be amazed at what lies underneath the surface.

Case in point; a caller recently called his talk show and he obviously sounded African. While interacting with this caller on a totally unrelated issue, Michael Savage made a derogatory reference to the current situation in Kenya that, sadly, continues to reinforce the stereotype many in the west have of Africa. Here is an excerpt of what transpired.

He was abusive, (as always – especially to foreign sounding people who do not agree with him. He loves those who agree with him.) racist and filled with hate.

Not all Americans are like this. I have very good American friends that I’ve kept friendships with for years. However, this is the America we are living in. I think you are empowered if you know what lies underneath.

Savage always trips over his own illogical arguments! Am I to understand that up to a million people have died in Iraq because the US uses arguments to make their point? Hohoho! What an idiot.

This is the Savage that is all for launching nukes and calls for illegal immigrants to be shot down dead, no questions asked. Let’s overlook the annoying fact that his own parents were Jewish immigrants.

You have to forgive him for being an angry white male, it’s all the fault of his parents and repressed homosexual tendencies (which he described in Savage Nation), so it comes as no surprise that he saves his best venom for the LGBT community. Denial is not a river in Egypt.

Interestingly, I read just recently that a lot of white males are voting for Barack Obama because he is the kind of dad they want to be for their kids.

And the green monkey bs is not even science. Is this really the same Savage that recommended using Vitamin C to cure AIDS!

I’d just turn the radio off mate. There are far more therapeutic things you could do like stand under the flight path at JFK international for instance. :)
