Sullivan Summits bring together political and business leaders, civil society and multinational leaders as well as members of academic institutions to focus attention and resources on Africa’s development. The Sullivan Summit was inspired by Rev. Sullivan’s belief that the development of Africa is a matter of global partnerships.Goals and objectives of the 8th summit;The key strategic objective of the Sullivan Summit VIII, which will be held in Arusha, Tanzania, is to create the opportunity for the nations in Africa and primarily North American and European business interests invest and otherwise engage in the socio-economic development of the African continent, through foreign direct investments, joint venture initiatives and public-private partnerships. SSVIII has four strategic objectives as identified by our host country:
1. To advance physical and economic infrastructure, especially power, transport and information technology through Regional Economic Community Discussions2. To attract investment in manufacturing, agricultural development and tourism3. To promote the tourism and hospitality sector as an engine of economic growth4. To advocate for the sustainability of the environment as an integral part of Africa’s long-term economic success
While each Sullivan Summit focuses on unique themes (those identified above) they are also united by some common, recurring goals for the Sullivan Foundation, these are:
- To marshal resources to expand the private sector, build more economic infrastructure and transfer technologies to African nations
- To leverage the investment power of the Diaspora in support of these goals
- To promote Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the Global Sullivan Principles (GSP) among participants
Sullivan Summit VIII, convened through plenary sessions and forums, is an opportunity to:

- Engage the AU, COMESA, ECOWAS, SADC, EAC and other regional blocs in discussion on regional integration strategies
- Bring together African and American entrepreneurs and investors in the infrastructure, tourism and environment sectors to meet the development needs of Tanzania and Africa
- Reach out to Asia as a source of strategic partnerships and investment generating opportunities
- Ensure that investors, NGOs and governments, are practicing in accordance with the standards of social accountability put forth in the Global Sullivan Principles creating facilitative conditions for the growth of the private sector
