Mugabe heads for a “landslide” victory — and the world carries on
South Africa blocked a move at the security council by the US and EU to push through a resolution that would have declared the election illegitimate. The 15 member council voted unanimously to shut down this initiative and instead “deeply regrets” the outcome of the election.US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice speaking from Kyoto where she is meeting with members of the the G8, said on Friday that she plans to bring up the issue of sanctions to the Security Council again. The presence of China, Russia and South Africa at the security council will ensure that this is most likely not going pass.
