Bernard Lagat has now qualified for the 5,000m and 1,500m

Kenyan-born and now US citizen, Bernard Lagat, qualified for the 1,500m in Eugene, OR today, the last day of the US Olympic trials, in a race that was tightly packed as a result of headwind gusts. According to reports, Lagat was in control throughout the race which he easily won in 3:40.37. Lagat qualified for the 5,000m July 1st when he clocked 13:27.47.Lagat has now qualified to represent the US since he became a US citizen in 2004. He is the reigning world champion in both events although his strongest race in the past has been the 1,500m.He won a bronze medal for Kenya in the 1,500m in Sydney in 2000 and a silver in the same race in 2004, also for Kenya.
