The Chinese ambassador to Kenya, Zhang Ming, hosted the Kenyan Olympic team at the embassy compound a couple of days ago as the team prepares to leave the country for the 29th Olympiad in Beijing. The games begin August 8th and run through the 24th.Among those who attended the party were Hon. Dr. Helen Sambili, Minister of Youth and Sports, Richard Onyonka, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kabando Wa Kabando, Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Kipchoge Keino, Chairman of the National Olympics Committee of Kenya and Mr. Douglas Sidialo, Chairman of the National Paralympics Committee of Kenya. The team was due to leave Kenya August 3rd, but decided to change the departure date to August 11th due to concerns with the weather conditions in Beijing. This is according to the chief de mission, David Okeyo.Officials of the team have also contacted Emirates Airlines, the airline providing transportation for the Kenyan team to Beijing, to effect this change, but according to the Standard, a situation still not fully understood has developed that might cause the team to arrive later than desired.
