Hillary Clinton has just moved a motion to break procedure and nominate Barack Obama by acclimation, officially confirming him as the first ever African-American nominee for president of the United States.

Nancy Pelosi has just announced that he has accepted the nomination and will issue an acceptance speech tomorrow.

More details to come.

You are correct. New Mexico yielded to Illinois which in turn yielded to New York. Hillary Clinton then moved the motion that officially ended the procedural nomination of state by state. Nancy Pelosi brought the motion up for a vote and it passed unanimously and Obama was confirmed shortly after that by acclimation.

update - 6:23PM - This comment was in response to a Hillary supporter who did not believe what was happening and posted here asking if it was really confirmed or not because some Hillary delegates were still waiting to vote. I replied to the comment, came back and it was gone. Ah, well. Perhaps they are realizing it’s time to come together for the bigger fight ahead.
