Banking lobbyists behind Michuki’s audit of Safaricom

According to Nairobi Star, a local Kenyan daily paper, an undisclosed lobby group from the banking industry met with Finance Minister John Michuki on December 8 and expressed their concerns with Safaricom’s M-Pesa runaway success and the need to slow it down or do away with it altogether. Three days after this meeting, Michuki ordered an audit of Safaricom.
