One Kenyan dead in NC crash; another injured – Driver faces charges

Three Kenyans were involved in a tragic car accident in Charlotte, NC last Saturday. June Wambui, Ann Nthambi Kituku and Sylvia Gathoni Wagi were traveling in a car driven by Wambui when it lost control and hit two trees before coming to a stop.

Kituku, who was sitting in the back was pronounced dead at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC while Wagi, who owned the car and was sitting in the passenger seat was injured and was sent to the same hospital, treated and immediately booked into jail facing charges of aiding and abetting a DWI offense. Wambui faces charges of driving while impaired and second-degree murder. Police say the 1999 Chevy Prism similar to this one was speeding when it went off the road.
