Ketan Somaia, the larger than life business and political figure who rose to prominence in Kenya with a questionable contract in the mid 80s to supply the 1987 All Africa Games in Nairobi and since fallen on hard times, is not giving up. He has moved to India’s high court to challenge his arrest there.

Somaia has been in custody in Mumbai, India since December 2008 after he was arrested there (to answer a theft charge in the UK) as he sought heart treatment in that country.

India insists that it must fulfill it’s extradition obligations with Britain and will allow Somaia to recuperate but will continue to hold him in custody and extradite him if authorities in the UK submit a request within 60 days of his arrest.
