Six years after leaving the Dallas Fort Worth area, Delta Airlines, now the world’s largest airline since merging with Northwest Airlines resulting in a fleet of more than 800 jets, offering 6,400 daily flights with earnings of nearly US$32 billion in revenue, is returning back to Dallas. A press release is expected tomorrow.

According to WFAA TV (see video below), the airline will start small, offering 3 flights to Memphis initially and will be based out of Dallas Love Field airport.

Kenya and the United States signed an open skies agreement in June 2008. Shortly after that Delta announced plans for direct flights to Kenya but briefly put those plans on hold until the company had a better understanding of shaky political climate in Kenya following the 2007 post election violence that plunged the country into violence. Things have since cleared up. Delta is set for an inaugural flight to Kenya on June 3rd 2009.

By returning to the centrally located Dallas Love Field airport, Delta offers nothing but good news for those passengers in the United States who need to travel to Kenya because there will be a lot of flexibility no matter where in the US you live to travel to Kenya.
