Davender Ghai, the long-time UK resident man who migrated there in the 50s from Kenya, has lost his fight with his city council at the High court where he had sought clarification on a dispute with the Newcastle city council about what was the proper way to cremate a body.
Mr Ghai, 70, wants to be cremated according to Hindu rites which require that upon his death, his body be laid on an open pyre of wood, set alight and cremated, while the council insists on a much more strict guideline.
