Summer doldrums, child care, health care debate, Kenya bubbling bla bla bla….

Summer in Texas is such a waste of life. It is so hot outside. If you need to take care of your yard (or if the kids want to go out and play), you either do it before 10 am or after 6pm in the afternoon unless you are feeling really macho and want to brave it in the middle of the day. Kisumu and Mombasa areĀ NO match for Texas summer. Comparing temperature readings somehow does not drive the point through how much hotter this place is. Anyway…life chugs along.
I’ve been gone for a while. Been quite busy. Especially with the kids. And just trying to earn a living. I’m rethinking how to make this blog consistently exciting, relevant and less time consuming to keep up and keep current. I’m working (been working on it for a while !!) on the third version of Breaking News Kenya and will put up a beta version in the next couple of weeks.
August is also do or die month for healthcare reform in the US. For those of us with a stake in this country (children, family etc), it’s been spellbinding to watch the drama play out. To keep my sanity while waiting to see how this eventually plays out, I listen to the Thom Hartmann show. I subscribe to the podcast and listen almost daily. If you are in my situation and share similar political leanings (I’M A LIBERAL !) and have never heard of Thom Hartmann, check him out. He’s not paying me to do this. I just like to highlight a good thing when I come across it. I’ve been listening to him for quite a while now and it’s the only way to really get a grasp of where things are and what progressives need to do to make sure we don’t waste this once in a lifetime chance to reform healthcare in the USA once and for all.
Kenya, I’m holding my breath and hoping for the best. Thanks Nairobi Chronicle for keeping it simple for those of us who are not wrapped up in the day-to-day politicking between Kenya’s politicians as they try to figure out which way forward (for themselves first) and Kenya.
